It's been 8 weeks

Well today marks 8 weeks since the boys were born. I just realized that I hadn’t posted a blog entry since then and thought I would add a quick update. Hopefully I’ll be able to update a little more now. Things have been a little busy around here. The boys have had LOTS of visitors though and they love them very much. (mommy does too because it gives her an extra hand around the house) After grammie and grampa left, Widmar had to leave to go on a trip and I learned real fast how to take care of two newborns on my own. Although a little chaotic and slightly unconventional we got ourselves into a routine. Widmar was home on the weekends for the next three weeks due to some training he had going on. After that, the boys were very excited when their Aunt Jamie, Uncle Ricky, and Uncle Matt came to visit them over their spring break. As their big sister it was pretty fun to watch them interact with the boys. Needless to say, they are all in love. Just this past weekend grampa was able to stop by in between TDY’s to see his little ones. It was great to have him here and we already miss him very much!

The boys have been doing GREAT! We couldn’t be more blessed with such beautiful babies. They are growing like CRAZY!! They are in 3 months clothes (some 0-3, but not many). Two weeks ago while Widmar was gone I was witness to Jacob’s first smile. Not the gassy smile, or the I’m going to sleep smile, but the real smile. Ever since then both boys are smiling and cooing like crazy. When Widmar and I are talking to the boys they “talk” back and it’s really funny to sit in the living room together and listen to it. Both boys are VERY strong. They grab onto everything in site and they are able to hold their heads up for a pretty good amount of time. Both boys have rolled over as well. Although I don’t think this is due to my Gifted children’s many talents, it just so happen they were very unhappy about being on the floor and fussed themselves right over. However, if we lay them on their tummies they are both able to roll over occasionally which makes me slightly nervous at how much we will have our hands full very soon. Jacob is the king of scooting. I was able to leave them on the play mat while I took a quick shower or folded laundry or went to the bathroom, but the other day I came out of the shower and went to check on them and Jacob had scooted himself backwards all the way off the mat. I didn’t think this was supposed to happen yet? They spend a lot of time playing on the floor with me though, so I’m not sure why this surprises me. We are enjoying their milestones and at the same time sad at how fast they grow up. I have had many emotional moments already. They are so big they didn’t fit in the pack and play together anymore so we had to move them to their own bedroom. I think I laid in bed and watched the video monitor for an hour sobbing. Now I’m informed that we need to move them into separate cribs because they are too big and wake each other up. I can’t watch both of them at the same time on the monitor so we will see how that goes. The first smile always brings a tear to your eye and when it’s been a long day of crying, the one smile makes it all worth it. We are loving being parents and we both agree that it gives you a whole new perspective on what God can do. Babies are true miracles and we just happened to be blessed with two of them.

Things around the house have been a little crazy the last couple of weeks. As most of you know I wasn’t able to get the boys to latch on to breastfeed, but I was pumping so they were getting it at every feeding. Apparently when you have two babies, you don’t have a problem with milk supply. I went for my 6 week postpartum check up on the 25th and had a concern of a lump on my breast and the previous two days I had 103 fever and severe chills. (all while Widmar was away at a school) The doctor that I have, who is phenomenal, treated me with mastitis and told me to email him updates every couple of days. By Friday, I thought everything was getting better so he had me wait it out through the weekend and I had to update him Monday. Widmar made it home by this point. By then, it had gotten worse and the mass probably doubled in size. I had to go in and see him and get it checked out. This was 11am that morning and by 4:30pm I was in surgery. They measured the mass at 6cm by 7cm and decided it needed to come out. I was rushed around the hospital like a crazy person with Widmar and the two boys. Poor kids were in the stroller all day. Which they didn’t seem to care, they were sleeping, but I felt horrible. At the end of the surgery I was able to speak with the PA that was in the surgery ( I was completely knocked out so I have no recollection of anything) and she said that it wasn’t even a mass. I had massive plugged ducts and the milk was backing up so much that it was causing all of the pain and tenderness. Basically for 30min of surgery they watched milk flow out. Which at the time, I didn’t find funny, but looking back at it really kind of makes me laugh. I had a long week of recovery because they couldn’t close up the incision it had to heal from the inside out. Widmar was able to take off work, thank goodness because I was on drugs and was really only good for holding the babies to feed them at that point. It was quite the week and I’m happy at the start of a new one.

The boys have their 2 month appointments on Monday and we are very interested to see how much they have grown. They seem so big now compared to when they were born. We are guessing about 10-11 lbs or so for both of them, but we aren’t sure. After that I will be flying out to Texas on the 14th. I think having babies has made me lose my mind slightly, but I thought it would be fun to go home and visit with the family and friends that are down there and since Widmar can’t go, I will tough it out on the plane alone with the two boys. I’ll update after and we’ll see how it goes. Other than that things are going great around here and I’m loving being a mommy. Even on the hard days I stop and think of how blessed I am to have two beautiful boys and a husband that although he has been gone frequently, he is not deployed and he is AWESOME with the boys when he is here. I hope that everyone has a blessed Easter weekend. Enjoy some of the more recent photos.
