Bronchoscopy and Laryngoscopy today
8:39 pm CST December 18, 2008
Jasper went in tonight for his Bronchoscopy and Laryngoscopy. They found he does have a severe case of Tracheomalacia.(It is a condition characterized by flaccidity of the tracheal support cartilage which leads to tracheal collapse especially when increased airflow is demanded.
The trachea normally dilates slightly during inspiration and narrows slightly during expiration. These processes are exaggerated in tracheomalacia, leading to airway collapse on expiration. )
His Surgeon, cardiologist and the ENT Team will all meet tomorrow to discuss the best option for going forward.
As of now he is back in his room in the ICU, we will have the breathing tube removed tomorrow and will probably go back on the CPAP (CPAP stands for "continuous positive airway pressure." CPAP is a treatment that delivers slightly pressurized air throughout the breathing cycle.) He will spend the day tomorrow in moms lap watching the history channel.
Jasper with his CPAP. It's not so bad, but his mom doesn't like how it smooshes his nose.
His room at the ICU, this is before his procedure.
After his procedure. Poor guy :-(
